How I Met Your Mother: 25 Best Moments From The Finale

With an hour long special, there's plenty to pick out...

If it wasn€™t such a cliché to proclaim How I Met Your Mother as legendary then that€™s the exact word we€™d use to describe the series finale. Last Forever, an hour long farewell to the long-running sitcom, rounded off the story of how Ted Mosby met the mother of his children with that typically-assured blend of comedy and emotion that has defined the series since it first premiered in 2005. Despite originally being commissioned for a thirteen episode run, over the past nine years CBS have aired two hundred and eight episodes of the Emmy award-winning show. Initially viewed as an inheritor of Friend€™s sitcom throne, HIMYM€™s unique time-hopping narrative and overarching mystery gave it it€™s own unique tone (and incredibly devoted fanbase). Every episode, each written by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and the majority directed by Pamela Fryman, presented a piece in the ongoing puzzle of how Ted (played by Josh Radnor and voiced by Bob Saget in the future narration) met the titular Mother, undercut by the ongoing development of the gang (idealistic Ted, Canadian newsreader Robin, pre-school teacher Lily, her law-student fiance Marshall and erratic womaniser Barney). The finale took us into the future of these characters who, as the episode internally said, have become like family, in a hour of television that called back to the numerous subplots and brought one final tear to audience€™s eyes. Now it's all just about sunk in, let€™s take a look back over the finale and its twenty-five most (oh screw it) legen...wait-for-it...dary moments. It goes without saying that there are major spoilers for the series finale of How I Met Your Mother from the start. You have been warned.
