Modern Family: 10 Examples Supporting Phil Dunphy's Candidacy Of TV's Best Dad

10. "Go Bullfrogs!" - Season 3, Episode 6

Modern Family... in which he lets Haley have fun, but checks up on her in an embarrassing way Nothing in the world would have made Phil Dunphy more proud in his first born followed in his collegiate footsteps and attended his Alma Mater. During those precious months of visiting campuses, Phil takes daughter, Haley, to visit his old stomping grounds without Claire. He spends the day showing her all of the fun things he used to do as a Bullfrog, to her utter embarrassment, though she starts to find some humor in it, allowing her to enjoy the time spent away from home with her father. Towards the end of the night, Phil and Haley find themselves at one his favorite bar/restaurants from his school days, eating the best wings the area had to offer. While there, the campus tour guide invites Haley to a party. Initially, she declines the invitation because she is finally having a good time with Phil. Phil, though, tells her its okay for her to go. She leaps at the chance and leaves, but not before thanking him. It only takes a matter of minutes for Phil to get a whiff of the kind of party he's just allowed his teenager to attend when hearing it was taking place at an infamous fraternity house. Cut to Phil marching into the frat house hosting the party to drag his daughter out of a possibly threatening situation. This results in one of the more mortifying experiences in Haley's life, as Phil is not aware the frat house is merely hosting a party for potential students, where faculty and parents were welcome to come. The episode ends with an endearing heart to heart that is enough to make anyone want to give their father a big hug. Even most though teens are able to judge a situation for themselves, it is always a nice reminder that your parents actually care about you when they show up to check on said situation. So what if she was embarrassed? She ended the night knowing that her father is always going to be looking out for her, whether or not she approves. That is a nice thing to know.
