Orphan Black was the surprise genre hit of last year. It could have been a generic pot-boiler with a dash of underdeveloped sci-fi mythology, but instead we got a nail-bitingly tense series with some compelling twists on old science-fiction tropes. Plus, Orphan Black has introduced the world to the seemingly limitless talent of Tatiana Maslany, who was criminally snubbed at last year's Emmys. If you've yet to watch the series, now would be a great time to catch up, as the trailer for season two has just arrived online (in advance of the BBC America premiere on April 19th) and it's absolutely full of teasers for impatient fans. From here on out we'll be recapping some of the best moments of the first season and looking at some of the questions that need answers this year, as well as picking up on a few titbits from the trailer. Honourable Mention: The Score
Trevor Yuile's score for Orphan Black is the unsung hero of the series thus far. Unfortunately, it isn't yet available to purchase, but Yuile posts excerpts to his SoundCloud on occasion. It's experimental and surprisingly chilling, particularly in Helena's scenes, when the music seems to revolt against her very presence onscreen. There's nothing quite like it on television at the moment, so take a minute in the second season to appreciate Yuile's fantastic work.
