Power Man Is Unstoppable In The First Trailer For Marvel’s Luke Cage

Car Door, Meet Bad Guys

Marvel Luke Cage

You really have to hand it to Netflix and Marvel, they really know how to do fight scenes in corridors.

Thursday tends to be the slower news day at Comic Con what with the con only just officially getting underway after previews night. Thankfully Marvel decided to drop footage and announcements galore at their TV panel and amongst it all was the first official trailer for Luke Cage.

It’s heavy on the action and thin on the plot with Cage tearing his way through a corridor of bad guys, stylistically looking very much in line with Daredevil. With ‘Ol Dirty Bastard’s ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya’ playing in the background, it’s great to see Marvel embrace the diversification of its brand.

Power Man himself, Mike Colter referred to Luke Cage as the “Wu-Tangification of the Marvel Universe”. If the ‘Wu-Tangification’ consists of more evildoers being crushed by torn off car doors, consider me sold.

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city–forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Props for the brilliant inversion of the Daredevil corridor fight scene too: rather than having him leaping around acrobatically and expending a lot of effort, Power Man does exactly what his title suggests. He's basically Harlem's Terminator.

Luke Cage premieres on Netflix on Friday the 30th September 2016.
