Sherlock: 18 Best Moments (In Gifs)

14. John Meets Mycroft

It's easy to assume from this scene, on first viewing, that Mark Gatiss has been cast as super-villain Moriarty; the smirk, the accent and the chilling demeanour all point to Conan Doyle's idea of the character. Gatiss plays a very different kind of antithesis to Holmes though, in his elder brother Mycroft. The very first scene between him and John is one in which we see deep into both characters; Mycroft is slightly sinister, yet wonderfully pompous, whilst John stands like a soldier throughout their little chat. A scene that would form one of the most interesting character dynamics of the show, and one that was beautifully directed.

13. "I Don't Count"

We knew something was up with Sherlock. Moriarty had prophesied a fall. It took Molly Hooper though to realise that something was wrong. And in this beautiful moment, we finally see her develop into an intuitive and important character for the show. It seems that finally, as well as John, we have a character who understands him, and not just another comic relief for his put-downs. Molly was to have a huge hand in faking Sherlock's death, before growing even more as a character in Series 3.
