The Simpsons: 10 Best Mr Burns Moments

9. Burns The Megalomaniac - Who Shot Mr Burns Pt 1

"Ever since the beginning of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun. I shall do the next best thing: block it out." Mr Burns has always been evil. This is the guy who ran over 10 year old Bart Simpson back in season 2, but in Who Shot Mr Burns, the shows only two parter to date, Springfield's darkest character seriously upped his game. In a bid to increase his already vast fortune, Burns steals a newly discovered oil well from Springfield Elementary, wrecking a number of lives in the process. The scheme doesn't stop there though. Once he gains control of the oil, Burns decides to block the sun itself, forcing the residents of Springfield to use his electricity 24 hours a day. Unsurprisingly, the townsfolk don't take too kindly to this plan and someone ultimately ends up shooting Burns. In classic whodunnit style, everyone in Springfield becomes a suspect. Even Waylon Smithers, Burns's long suffering assistant is accused at one point. The entire script is hilarious from start to finish, but it's the moment when Burns actually blocks out the sun which becomes a defining moment for the character. Unfortunately, Burns's evil scheming never quite reaches this peak again. The biggest mistake of The Simpsons Movie was to sideline the shows greatest villain for some faceless bureaucrats who just enclose the town of Springfield in a large glass dome. Stealing a lollipop from an infant... Now that's villainy!
