The Simpsons: Edna Krabappel’s 10 Greatest Moments

10. Edna Marries Ned Flanders €“ Ned'n'Edna's Blend

Rsz Ednaned "No weird hook-ups!", screamed Marge as the sea captain and Lindsey Naegle got to know each other during her party for Ned Flanders and Edna Krabappel. Which definitely wasn't a weird hook-up to begin with. Deep into season 23, this was a continuation of the previous season's cringe-inducing finale where viewers were encouraged to vote on whether the pair stayed together €“ well, apparently they did, and decided to keep the new couple going. So despite the questionable execution, this had some nice moments. For example, the scene where Edna is trying to explain to Ned the real modern meaning of an 'open relationship' was quite well done, as the writer's played around with the obvious connotations of pairing up "Preachy and Teachy". Edna's relationship with Ned's children was also surprisingly emotive, with the more secular woman somewhat casting off Rod and Todd's religious shackles €“ complete with the fake tattoos and "Chillax!" vocabulary. Not bad for a woman who claims in this episode that she "never really cared about children". Considering the amount of partners that woman has been with, it's a miracle she was never re-united with an estranged son or daughter. Unfortunately, we will now never know what the writers had in store for this relationship, and that's a damned shame.
