Star Trek: 10 Reasons The Eugenics War Would Make A Quality TV Series

10. It's Star Trek, But Not As We Know It

Far-Beyond-the-Stars All the traditional Star Trek series followed the exact same formula, and even the not so traditional Deep Space Nine still found excuses to explore an unknown planet every few weeks. This is something that would separate the Eugenics Wars completely from what has come before, but that does not mean it would not be Star Trek at its core. In fact by being set within our own lifetimes (for most of us), it would look at ways in which we ourselves could help bring about creator Gene Roddenberry's vision of humanity reaching its altruistic potential that Star Trek was built on in the first place. When Star Trek is at its best, like all decent science fiction, it is not about aliens and technology, but about us. Using thinly veiled metaphors, Star Trek told stories on alien worlds that examined topical ideas. Let That Be Your Last Battlefield is a prime examination of racism and segregation, something that 1960s censors would never have allowed to be discussed directly. With such censorship now somewhat tamer, a series based on The Eugenics Wars would be able to address the many issues that still plague our modern world, from homophobia to political scandals and beyond, in the way that Roddenberry intended.
