Star Wars Rebels Season 4: 13 Questions That Must Be Answered

12. Where Did The X-Wings And U-Wings Come From?

Rebels has told stories that explore the backstory to many of the ships that were made famous by the original trilogy. We've had Wings of the Master exploring the development of the B-Wing fighter (yet to re-appear I may also add), Steps into Shadow that focused on a recovery mission of the aging Y-Wing bombers, and A Princess on Lothal which brought the Hammerhead Corvettes back into canon.

And now that the Season Four trailer has dropped, we know the U-Wings from Rogue One will make their animation debut, along with, at long last, the classic X-Wing fighters, with Hera herself flying one into battle.

But the question is, will we see how the Rebellion acquired these fighters?

Now it’s possible that we won’t get a backstory for the X-Wings. Like the A-Wings, the X-Wings may just make an appearance, but the U-Wings are a different matter. Like many of our Rebels, they don’t appear in the original trilogy at all, and in Rogue One, there are only two of them, both of which are destroyed by the end. This could mean that the Rebellion only ever acquired two ships, which opens up the potential for exploring their origins.

Whether they tell this story or not, it’s going to be a treat not only seeing Hera fly an X-Wing, but also get behind the wheel of a U-Wing.
