Stranger Things Season 3 Confirmed By The Duffer Brothers
Time to go Upside Down again.
It's felt like an eternity since the stunning first season of Stranger Things landed and was irresistibly binged in a matter of days, and since then all talk has been focused on what comes next. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long for the confirmation of a second season, which promises to be scarier, nerdier and even more fraught - none of which is a bad thing - and which is just around the corner now.
And even better, there's now news that the Stranger Things adventure won't end there. The prodigiously talented Duffer Brothers have confirmed that the rumours of a third season are indeed true.
In a new interview with Vulture, Matt Duffer revealed that he wants to keep the story evolving, but without making his actors go through too much: “I don’t know if we can keep having something bad happen to them once a year.” When asked about the possibility of a hopeful ending for them, he offered only an ominous “They’ll have to get the f*ck out of town.”
We've already been told that Stranger Things season 2 will start to tie up their story, and the fact that the show was originally pitched as an Anthology Series might well offer something of a model for how they move forward. Though when the Duffers spoke to ScreenRant they did expressly mention a "multiple season arc" so perhaps there's a chance that the Hawkins' AV Club will still be the central focus of the third season?
There is some truth to that [about it originally being an anthology show]. Yeah. That was when we were pitching it. That was true. Cause we looked at Stephen King’s “IT,” and we liked that time jump that they made, so we kind of pitched that. Then Netflix was really interested in it as a series, because rightfully so. They were like, “I think people are going to fall in love with these kids. We are going to invest so much time with them, we’re going to want to continue our journey with them.” And they were right. Once we started building a writers room and working on the show, we started to develop it and plan a multiple season arc.

For now, it's all speculation, and we'll presumably get more firm answers when the second season airs. Which can't come soon enough.
