Contains spoilers from Supergirl Season 4, Episode 10.

Supergirl returned to our screens for the much-anticipated second half of its fourth season this week and, all things considered, the show looks pretty different to how it did before taking its brief hiatus. In the midseason premiere, 'Suspicious Minds', we discovered that the Girl of Steel no longer works for the D.E.O., J'onn J'onzz has officially become a private investigator, Brainiac-5 has superheroic intentions for Nia Nal and, perhaps the most frustrating of them all, Colonel Lauren Haley is intent on controlling Supergirl.

Disgusted by the fact that Kara is continuing to "interfere" in government operations, Haley took it upon herself to investigate the D.E.O.'s former operative, with the intention of discovering her true identity. However, in doing so, she single-handedly changed the course of the season and made us rather suspicious of her true motivations.

The early part of Supergirl's fourth season gave us some nice insight into where the show was heading as it quickly adopted a more serious tone and introduced us to its new Big Bad. However, following the midseason premiere, that direction has become a little less clear - leaving us in need of some answers.

6. Is Romance Still On The Cards For Nia & Brainy?

Introduced in Season 3, Brainiac-5 has often been a source of Supergirl's comic relief, with his robotic approach leading to some hilarious exchanges. However, this season has taken an emotional toll on him, eventually inspiring him to remind us that he is actually techno-organic and, thus, he has feelings.

Some of those feelings seem to revolve around newcomer Nia Nal. Ever since CatCo's new reporter stood up and defended him against anti-alien bigots, Brainy has become somewhat attached to her, finding out everything there is to know about her (in a completely non-creepy kind of way). Furthermore, Nia does appear to share those feelings as she lights up when he enters the room and often giggles at his unusual mannerisms.

Their latest encounter was undoubtedly their most unusual yet as Brainy scheduled a date for the pair merely to discuss the possibility of Nia becoming a superhero. Though she was disheartened at first, Nia did appear touched by his words of encouragement about her abilities. However, as Brainy himself eventually noticed, he did seem to taint the pair's fun and innocent dynamic by bringing superheroes into it, and it does beg the question: Will they be able to salvage it?

We do know that Nia is destined to become Dreamer, but is a romance with Brainiac-5 still on the cards? Whatever happens, it's hard to deny that the pair's scenes haven't been one of the most endearing qualities of Season 4. So, in case it wasn't already obvious, more Nia and Brainy please.
