The Flash: 7 Best Episodes So Far

My name is Barry Allen, and I'm the fastest man alive.

The Flash was one of the most pleasant surprises from the TV world last year. Its debut season was a huge hit with audiences and critics, and it was praised for its fun nature and surprisingly good special effects. With the second season premiering in a matter of days, this article takes a look at which episodes made the show such a success.

Offering a lighter tone to its counterpart Arrow, The Flash embraced its comic book roots, using its strong cast to balance out some of the sillier metahuman characters. The show had it all: humour, drama and an incredible set of characters, including its main villain.

Every episode highlighted different strengths of the show. Whether they were building towards the larger mythology or adding yet another villain to the already-impressive roster, every episode felt like it meant something. This success can be attributed to the Flash always reyying on its two greatest assets: its special effects and memorable characters. Despite their huge contrast, the series succeeded whenever it showed the Flash’s super-speed at work, or focused on his complicated father-son relationships.

Whether he was facing off against the Reverse-Flash, trying to win over Iris or having touching moments with both of his dads, these were the episodes which cemented The Flash as must watch TV.

7. Flash Vs. Arrow (Season 1, Episode 8)

Marking the first of likely many crossovers to come, Flash vs. Arrow was a strong start to the shared CW universe. It highlighted the differences not only between the heroes but their shows as well.

We got to see the entire Arrow crew in a more light-hearted world and it was glorious. Diggle’s baffled reaction to Barry’s powers might be the single greatest thing in the whole series. Even seeing Oliver relax a bit was a welcome change.

But this episode succeeds not because of the Arrow but because we see some real growth from Barry. He’s still very much learning as a hero and as the fastest man alive, the Arrow teaches him a valuable lesson: slow down. This important character development didn’t come unearned, however, and resulted from the hands of an epic fight scene between the two heroes. A brainwashed Flash sets off an incredible battle of speed vs skill that brought out a new dimension in the character and an impressive set of visual effects as well.

Oh, and that reference to Oliver’s baby mama that Moira paid off? Gold.
