The Flash Season 2: 7 Theories On The Man In The Iron Mask's Identity

Who will it be?

Who is The Man in the Iron Mask?

The Flash has been loving its masked man mysteries in Season 2. For most of the season we were left questioning just who Zoom really was, with the theories ranging from Barry Allen's Earth-2 doppelgänger to actually just being Tony Todd in a speedster suit.

The reveal came a few episodes ago, that it was Jay Garrick - or rather, Hunter Zolomon - who was the Big Bad of The Flash's sophomore season, but that in itself opened up more questions: who was the guy on Earth-1? How did he manage it? What the f**k is going on?

While they've (mostly) been answered, one big question remains, and it's another question of identity. The Man in the Iron Mask is kept prisoner in Zoom's Earth-2 lair, and has been setup as an important part of the season's endgame. However, there aren't many clues to his identity. He knows military code, and tapped out 'J-A-Y' using it, while Zoom said that Barry wouldn't believe him if he said who it was.

Meanwhile, Kevin Smith (who recently directed an episode) said he "cried" when he heard who it was, calling it "beautiful", while producer Andrew Kreisberg said it will "blow your mind."

The mystery has been built up, and with just two episodes left the reveal is coming soon, but who will it be?

7. A Character We Don't Know

This is the one that would, to an extent, require the least explaining, and yet also be the most disappointing.

I don't envisage that it'll just be any random character under that mask, but it could be someone of importance that we haven't met yet. There are still plenty of comic book characters that haven't turned up on the show, and it could be a stealthy way of introducing them here, someone like Bart Allen, for example.

To people aware of the character it would certainly be a big twist, but not necessarily a good one, and a bit of a waste. Would it be beautiful and blow our minds? Probably not. Unless it's the Green Lantern under there (we can keep hoping the character will make his way to The CW, right?), this seems the least likely scenario, but still one that can't be fully ruled out just yet.
