The Flash Season 2: 7 Ups And 4 Downs Of 'Invincible'

Why Barry's loss is a good thing, yet his newfound god complex isn't.

After last week's trip to the actual Speed Force itself, Barry Allen is back and back in a big way.

With a new confidence in his own abilities, no task is too big for The Flash, even if that task involves tackling the hundreds of supervillains who are now on the streets of Central City. On top of that, he also has the ever-ominous threat of Zoom in his sights as he looks to take down this rival speedster once and for all.

Whilst Barry has his fingers in many a pie in this latest Flash offering, that's not to say he hasn't got some assistance. Doing what he can, young Wally West starts to step up and be his own sort of hero, and then there's the rest of Team Flash doing their best to help the Scarlet Speedster with the job at hand.

Of course, the biggest moment of Invincible is the episode's closing moments in which Barry suffers a tragic loss. We all kind of saw it coming, but Zoom took the person closest to Barry and took him in a big way, setting up what should be an explosive finale next week.

With all of that said, though, let's take a look at what Invincible got right and what it maybe fumbled a little.

Wally Stepping Up

Whilst Joe may not be too keen on his son putting himself in some potentially hairy situations, for viewers it’s at least a big positive to see the stepping up of Wally West.

Sure, he may not have any superpowers that we know of just yet, but Wally trying to do something with his life is good to see.

The character of Wally West had a little bit of a bumpy introduction to the show, although he’s now firmly found his feet and is becoming an enjoying part of The Flash in his own right. It’s likely not clever of him to be putting himself in such danger, but who knows what’s around the corner for Wally.

Following the recent particle accelerator, who’s to say that Wally West doesn’t end up with his own powers and follows the path of his comic book counterpart who becomes Kid Flash before eventually taking over as The Flash from Barry.

Powers or not, it was definitely a big step forward to see Wally stepping up to help fight the good fight in Central City.
