The Flash season 2 is coming up fast (he never does anything at normal speed, that guy), marking the return of one of the very best superhero shows on TV.

It burst out of the traps in season 1, leaving competitors (including its CW stablemate Arrow) in the dust, and just kept on running without ever looking back. While most comic-book properties are going darker, The Flash was like a beacon of light, a breath of fresh air. And now, thankfully, it's almost back, ready to save our TV schedules once again.

It's going to be bigger, better, and faster this time around, as the show introduces a whole bunch of new characters, both heroes and villains, and expands the entire mythos of the series in a way most superhero shows never do, much less in just their second season.

The producers have done a good job of promoting the new season without giving too much away, and there'll no doubt be answers and then even more questions once the series gets underway on October 6. However, there are some details that have been released that you need to know about going into season 2. If done right, these will cement its place as the best superhero show on TV, and the most exciting.

13. A New Love Interest

Joe West is getting a new partner season (RIP Eddie), and with it Barry Allen will be getting himself a new love interest.

Shantel VanSanten, best known for her role on another CW series, One Tree Hill, will be playing the comics character Patty Spivot. She's a police officer and a good friend of Barry's, who is interested in being more than that until she realises his infatuation with Iris.

That may be something of a difference this time around, as she's very much being billed as being part of his love life. She's also well aware of metahumans, and according to the official description of her character is "obsessed" with them. Despite this she has no idea that Barry is actually The Flash. Obviously.

She's not the only one who may be vying for Barry's affections though, as it has also been confirmed that Malese Jow will return as Central Picture News Reporter Linda Parker, who enjoyed a few dates with him last season.
