The Flash Season 3: 7 Easter Eggs & References You Might've Missed In 'Paradox'

Did Barry Just Create The Second Green Arrow?

The Flashpoint timeline might have been squeezed into a single hour last week, but this episode was all about the aftermath of the event. This second new world might not have been quite as different as Flashpoint, but it has some distinct changes from the original timeline.

These include: Cisco suffering a terrible loss, yet also working on his own superhero suit. Caitlin developing some new abilities. Barry gaining a co-worker in Julian Albert, as played by Tom Felton. Plus the scary new big bad, Doctor Alchemy (voiced by Saw’s Tobin Bell) – a seemingly all-powerful individual with the ability to grant metahuman powers on whomever he wishes.

As the episode was busy setting up the new status quo and building up the drama, it was a little bit slimmer on the easter egg front than last week. That said, there were still many references, nods, and callbacks to be found in the episode.

Episode two's title - Paradox - is a fairly innocuous one by itself (if slightly misleading, as it doesn't actually include a time paradox). Put it together with the previous episode that was simply titled Flashpoint, however, and you get a clever nod to the name of the other adaptation of the Flashpoint storyline.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox was a DC animated movie released in 2013. Like The Flash, it also scaled back the massive crossover event into bite-size form and largely focused on Barry’s emotional journey. Unlike The Flash, though, it still found time to feature Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and many more.

The symbiotic titles are fitting, as the two episodes share a few similar beats. For instance, a final showdown between The Flash and The Rival on Williamson Street. I forgot to mention it last week, but this is presumably a nod to Joshua Williamson, the current writer of The Flash comics.
