The Flash Season 5: 3 Ups & 4 Downs From ‘Goldfaced’

3. Sherloque Gets Serious

The Flash Sherloque Wells
The CW

In a rather surprising twist, Nora West-Allen opened this week's episode by discovering that Sherloque Wells was on to her. Terrified and lost, she turned to the one man who could help her - the Reverse-Flash, Eobard Thawne.

Knowing just how brilliant all iterations of Harrison Wells are, Thawne helped Nora concoct a plan that would see Sherloque fall in love and ultimately get distracted from his investigation. Though it hit a few speed bumps, the plan ended up working, as Sherloque fell for Rene Adler - a woman he rescued from a fall in Jitters.

In typical Sherloque fashion, this would prove to be an incredibly comical storyline as it was revealed that all of his former wives were actually doppelgangers of Rene. However, the ridiculousness of the situation only highlighted the layers that were really underneath his character as it soon became clear that, deep down, all he wanted was love. So when he finally found it, he was willing to do anything to keep it.

Upon discovering that Rene was actually a metahuman, he scrapped his investigation into Nora altogether and resumed his investigation into Cicada, vowing to keep Rene safe from the meta-hunting Big Bad.

Although this storyline has only prolonged Nora's lies, it may be a blessing in disguise. Since arriving, Sherloque has been responsible for some of the season's most hilarious moments, but hasn't been able to offer much else. However, in recent episodes, he has slowly begun living up to his reputation as a vaunted detective and, now that his heart is on the line, we may finally get the chance to see who Sherloque Wells really is.
