The Flash Season 6 Review: 3 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang'

Downs...

3. Lack Of Barry And Iris

One particularly irksome trait of the Arrowverse shows is their habit of writing out certain characters just to give the others some well-deserved screen-time. Yes, it's effective and, in this case, makes sense as Barry and Iris should indeed spend some time together due to the clock that is hanging over the heads, but it's a constant reminder that the character who benefits from this (Cisco) wouldn't receive that kind of attention if they were around. And the question is: Why?

Nobody is expecting Cisco to headline every episode like he did here, but why must the Arrowverse shows have to write characters out in order to give others screen time? Legends of Tomorrow has mastered the ensemble nature of these shows perfectly, so why hasn't The Flash?

Aside from all that, it's great that Barry and Iris are getting some time together in order to process the coming Crisis, but wouldn't it make for a more interesting character narrative if these moments didn't take place off-screen?
