The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 Review: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'Women's Work'

Ups...

7. Janine's Return

The Handmaid's Tale
Hulu

Janine was a huge presence in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale, but since the character was arrested and sent to the Colonies, she been on our screens very little. However, after her surprising return to Gilead in last week's episode, we got to see how the damaged handmaid was coping with her reintegration into society.

Janine really is like a breath of fresh air, and her positive, rebellious attitude is something that has been sorely missing in the dystopian society. No matter how dire the circumstances, she always has a smile on her face, and she continues to see the world from an innocent perspective, despite all that has happened to her

The revelation that baby Angela (or Charlotte, as Janine prefers to call her) was sick created an opportunity for us to see Janine do what she does best and that's care for her baby girl. Watching the red-headed handmaid pull out all the stops to save her daughter's life was heartwarming to say the least, and moments like these don't arise very often in The Handmaid's Tale.
