Disney+ launched with an impressive range of popular and nostalgic content from Disney's vault as well as Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic and Star Wars. The young streaming service even had a hit right out of the gate thanks to The Mandalorian.

The new series was developed by Jon Favreau, the man who launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Dave Filoni, the best Star Wars mind in the game right now. Season 2 is on the way thanks to a mind blowing debut, which followed the adventures of a Mandalorian named Din Djarin trying to protect a baby from the remains of the Empire.

The series mixes the genres of science fiction, westerns and samurai films perfectly, reminiscent of what made Star Wars great in the first place. It's also reminiscent of Rogue One in that it tells a great story that steps back from the Skywalker Saga, all the while maintaining a loose narrative connection to it.

Part of what makes The Mandalorian great is the connections to those previous Star Wars stories, including the movies, comics and animated shows. Some references are right in your face while others at a lot more subtle, but they all help weave a brilliant tapestry that all Star Wars fans can appreciate.

One of Djarin's first allies in the series is Kuill, an Ugnaught who worked for his freedom and now just wants to live a simple, quiet life. Sadly, Djarin's interruption of Kuill's retirement plans ends very poorly for him and his blurrgs.

These large, bipedal creatures with giant mouths made their first appearance way back in the 1985 made for TV Ewoks movie, The Battle for Endor. They also appeared in Clone Wars as the mounts used by the rebellious Twi'leks on Ryloth as they fought back against the Separatist Army.

For monsters that seem to be mostly mouth and stomach, they are surprisingly endearing creatures that Kuill is obviously quite attached to. Without them, Djarin never would have completed his mission and started on this incredible journey.
