The Simpsons: 5 Things You Might’ve Missed In The Past Five Years

4. Marge Became The Mayor

Classic Simpsons fans will remember Marge getting a job as a police officer only to quit because of the massive corruption, or being forced to quit her power plant job due to Burns' advances. However, Season 29 saw her move up a few stations in The Old Blue Mayor She Ain't What She Used To Be as she's elected mayor of Springfield.

It's been a while since Marge was central to the plot in the way she was in this outing. Making her mayor was genuine new ground for the long-running cartoon, with the plot seeing her winning the election then winning the public's heart by light-hearted ribbing of Homer. However, when he becomes a figure of fun for the whole town, Marge starts to have second thoughts, and sees her popularity nosedive as she struggles to keep up her campaign tactic of being nice to everyone.

Utilising nostalgia by bringing the monorail back for a cameo, the comedy doesn't sparkle quite like it did in the golden years but the plot feels like it would be right at home. The only drawback is the truncated ending which shows her impeached, meaning the role as mayor lasts for just one episode.
