The Simpsons is one of those shows that will survive forever. After the inevitable nuclear apocalypse the only things that will live on will be occasional plant life, cockroaches and season 120 of The Simpsons. That just goes to show the popularity of the animated series about the yellow skinned family.
First airing way back in 1989, The Simpsons is still going strong to this day with new episodes still being churned out and with re-runs of classic episodes (and not so classic) ones being shown multiple times daily all around the world. Somewhere, always... The Simpsons is playing on screens.
We can give many thanks to the protagonist and patriarchal character in the Simpsons family, the incredibly dense Homer Simpson. The series could arguably live on from his antics and adventures alone, but with such a diverse cast of characters who have great individual and memorable personalities, there's no telling when the writers will finally run out of storyline ideas for the residents of Springfield.
