The Umbrella Academy Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen

9. More Time/Era Hopping

Season 1 saw Klaus go back to the 60s, but we didn’t get to see an awful lot of what happened in that timeline. Likewise, Number Five has jumped all over the place, but aside from a few isolated moments, we didn’t really see much of it.

Season 1 ended with Number Five trying to transport them all to another era to avoid Vanya ever starting the Apocalypse. Whether he’s able to take them all there, and how well they do there, is anyone’s guess. The Dallas storyline, which is highly likely to be the season’s arc after Season 1 followed The Apocalypse Suite, takes place in the 60s, an era of high fashion and high concepts.

As Mad Men showed, TV shows set in the 60s offer an excellent backdrop for political commentary, as well as the opportunity for an explosion of colour. Considering how bold The Umbrella Academy’s palette and design choices were in the first season, the 60s will only get bigger and better.

If the show goes slightly away from Dallas’ storyline (we probably won’t see an obese Luther, for example), they might explore some other eras too. An 80s setting certainly helped Stranger Things’ popularity.
