Eugene’s loyalty remains somewhat of a mystery. He had certainly taken to his prominent role as the mad scientist of The Sanctuary with great satisfaction, but his assistance in Sasha’s end-of-season death - when he smuggled her a poisonous pill so that she could commit suicide - indicated that his heart might still be with his Alexandria friends.

The baseball-bat swinging leader of The Saviours seemed assured that he had converted Eugene to Negan until suspicions arose about how Sasha could have died in that coffin. A clearly angry Negan was seen questioning Eugene exactly how this happened in the final moments of the season, and did not seem convinced by the explanation he was offered.

If Eugene is indeed playing double agent, he will have to tread very carefully in the early episodes of season eight because Negan is not going to let Sasha’s death drop easily. Eugene may have to prove himself all over again by making bullets for The Saviours.
