The Walking Dead: 5 Reasons The Finale Was Awesome, 5 Reasons It Sucked

4. The Living Are The Real Enemy

It's become more clear with each passing season that The Walking Dead is less and less about a fight between the humans and the walkers, and more about the humans trying to tear each other apart. It's an interesting if not particularly original idea, one that going by online reactions to Season 3 is much to the frustration of many of the show's fans, who see the zombie splatter as something of an integral part of the show, and fair enough, you can't argue with that. Though I will admit that the balance has probably been tipped a little too far away from the walkers for a lot of this season, the human elements have been highly compelling to watch for the most part; it's a reminder that in a crisis situation, the first thing to break down will be society. You might come across a survivor who will blindside you, steal your belongings and kill you just because they're stronger than you and can. David Morrissey's widely-acclaimed performance as the savage Governor - perhaps the only unanimously-applauded element of Season 3 - totally cements this thematic aspect of the show.
