The Walking Dead Season 7: 6 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Well'

In episode 2, we don't know what the hell's going on in the most wonderful way.

Well, that was a much needed change of pace.

After last week's season premiere, which was totally sadistic and depressingly nihilistic, The Walking Dead does a 180 degree turn so quick that you're likely to get whiplash before the opening credits have started.

Normally such a tonal shift could be overwhelmingly jarring, or like it's part of a different show, but here it's both necessary and justified by the episode. After the brutality of the season premiere, this was a refreshing palette cleanser.

Completely eschewing the events of 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be', episode 2 - 'The Well' - takes us to The Kingdom. We pick things up with Carol and Morgan after their rescue at the end of Season 6, and finally get to meet King Ezekiel (and his pet tiger!).

While some viewers may not be happy with having to wait to see just what impact the deaths have, the decision ultimately pays dividends. We get an episode that, while far from perfect, is throughly enjoyable start-to-finish.
