The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale: Every Dumb Moment, Ranked Bad To Worst

9. Everything To Do With Gabriel

The Walking Dead's increasingly sprawling cast has led to once-major characters suffocating under the limitations of a regular 50-minute episode runtime, but none have fared quite as bad as Gabriel. After transforming into a surprisingly compelling hero over the course of season 7, the priest has been held captive since the 8A premiere last year - and nobody in the main cast has given a f**k.

The writers have attempted to carve him out a bit of a story, but since coming down with an illness, losing part of his eyesight and using the power of God to pull off sick-ass headshots (no, really), he's reverted to being one of the dumbest characters on the show.

Even worse, the Season 8 finale was essentially a testament to how extraneous the main character is. His scant few scenes showed him taking Negan's "confession", jumping out of a moving car, running blindly through the woods, and being held hostage. He did get one satisfying sucker punch on Negan, but that's about the only useful thing he's done in 16 episodes.

Even worse, when he was actually freed, he wasn't shown interacting with any of Rick's group. Despite being missing for an entire season, there was no teary reunion with the cast, no sigh of relief from Rick and no resolution; he just ended back up at Alexandria's church like a spare part.
