10. The War Begins

Banding together in an effort to stop Negan and the Saviours, we get the allied forces of Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Kingdom. Together they march to the Sanctuary, fire shots in the air, and declare war on the Saviours.

However, the plan here isn't to engage with the Saviours at the Sanctuary in battle immediately, but rather to lure them into a trap: the gunfire draws the attention of the walkers guarding Negan's community, who eventually break free and form a large herd. While they attack the Sanctuary, Rick and his militia flee the scene, the plan being to form two groups (one led by Rick, the other by Ezekiel) and starting taking out the Saviours' outposts, thus considerably reducing their numbers.

The major loss here is Holly, who sacrifices herself in driving through the gates of the Sanctuary, allowing the zombies to converge on it. She's taken by Negan and held prisoner, though she does become very useful to him later on.

In terms of the TV show, it's likely we'll see something rather similar play out. Although Holly's arc has been filled by Sasha, the rest of it is much in line with the plan outlined by Dwight: distract Negan, then take out the outposts, and we can probably expect to see this play out on-screen.
