The Walking Dead is a very different show this year. Not only has the AMC series underwent a massive overhaul at the hands of new showrunner Angela Kang, but it also bid farewell to three of its central characters, including protagonist Rick Grimes.

Interestingly, Kang's new direction for the post-apocalyptic drama has largely went down a storm with fans, with many praising its freshness, while others have commented that the series is in the best overall condition it's been in since the fourth season - a remarkable feat given the poor quality of the latest few seasons.

Following a number of character deaths and two-time jumps, the ninth season finished out its first half in typical Walking Dead fashion, and the mid-season finale proved to be one of the strongest episodes in, well, ever.

With the ramifications of Jesus' death no doubt playing a pretty big role going forward, our survivors must prepare to take on a mysterious new enemy - one that they know next to nothing about. The series is on hiatus until February, and there are a number of lingering threads and questions to be answered when Season 9 returns.

10. How Will The Other Survivors Escape?

The ending of the mid-season finale was really quite something. However, you were likely very busy mourning the loss of Jesus to realise that Eugene, Michonne, Aaron and Daryl are still out in the foggy woods, surrounded by a new enemy.

The Whisperers revealed themselves to the group, before making their mark and murdering Jesus in cold blood, leaving our survivors in a state of shock. As cliffhangers go, this is truly one of The Walking Dead's finest.

Now that we've all processed the disturbing events of Evolution, the question is whether or not these key characters will get out of their horrifying predicament.

While we'll have to wait until February to know for definite, the preview for the upcoming second half of the season seems to suggest that they do in fact make it back to Hilltop. If this is the case, then it begs the question of how exactly they manage to escape with their lives intact, now that we know what The Whisperers are capable of? We'll have to wait and see.
