The Walking Dead Season 9: 5 Ups & 1 Down From 'What Comes After'

Rick Hershel The Walking Dead

Last week's instalment gave us plenty to mull over, leaving us on a pretty big cliffhanger. One of the most noticeable thing was how the show had begun to pay tribute to some of its most significant moments - namely the iconic horse scene from the pilot episode.

With What Comes After, viewers prepared to bid farewell to Rick, and the show made sure that there wasn't a dry eye left, as it reminded us of several more key moments - and characters - from the show's nine-season run.

Due to his injury, Rick frequently hallucinated, and was transported back to several locations from his past. It begins with the hospital, where he first awoke to find himself all along during the apocalypse. Later, he ends up at Hershel's farm, where he is reunited with the elderly wise man once more. Considering Scott Wilson's recent passing, this scene was even more poignant that it was intended to be. Rick also shares a moment with his former best friend Shane, and he later finds himself communicating with Sasha.

These special appearances aid in reminding us just how many people have been lost over the course of TWD's run.
