Whatever your thoughts on The X-Files Revival last year (which went on to become known as season ten), one thing is certain: it proved successful. Fans tuned in, and people were talking about the show that was a 90s juggernaut.

The six-episode event series was hit and miss, with arguably the best X-Files outing in years being the campy, comedic Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster. That having been said, the show's return to television was a ratings hit for FOX, with fans worldwide tuning in to see what had become of Mulder and Scully. When the six episodes ended on a cliffhanger, there was never really any question that more was to come.

Now, fans have had a sneak peak of what the show will bring in 2018, thanks to a new official trailer filled to the brim with tantalizing snippets of upcoming episodes. This is, arguably, one of the best trailers the show has ever produced, though in true X-Files fashion, it creates more questions than answers.

From old friends to new faces, demonic looking creatures to alien entities, there's a lot to digest with this first proper glimpse of The X-Files season eleven. Breaking it all down, let's take a look at ten key things we learned from the new trailer for The X-Files Season 11.

10. The Black Oil Is Still In Play

Right off the opening of the new trailer, we get our first clue as to what season eleven might look like. The clip begins with an animation of the FOX logo - one that suddenly has a black, dye-like substance bleed through it.

Remind you of anything? This is very, very similar to the "black oil" - a substance which, in the show's ongoing mythology, carried an alien virus which infected human hosts, initially controlling them like a parasite then gestating into an actual alien. Similar animations have appeared before, notably in the first X-Files movie, in which the black oil was a key plot point.

Now, this simply could be a cool way to make the Fox logo a little more X-Files-esque, but the "X" of the logo then transitions into what looks like the pupil of an eye, a familiar look for the show. The black oil was always seen to infect the eyes, gliding over them like a thin film.

What does this tell us? The show may not have completely abandoned this storyline just yet. Which is good, because the whole "false flag" alien invasion storyline from last season seemed to be taking the show off the rails.
