The X-Files Season 11: 10 Things We Learned From The New Trailer

9. The Lone Gunmen Are Not Dead

One of the worst spoilers in television history came when tech news site Slashdot trumpeted in a headline that "The Lone Gunmen Are Dead" prior to the episode featuring their demise airing. Since then, fans have been furious that Chris Carter and company opted to kill off the fan favorites.

The trio have since been brought back twice: once in the season nine finale, then believed to be the series finale, and once again in season ten. Both times, they were visions experienced by Mulder.

Take note: visions, not ghosts. Now, fans have never really been satisfied by that. Their deaths seemed forced, and their demise turned out to be one of the least popular decisions the show ever made. In the comics, which are at least semi-canon, however, the Gunmen were learned to have faked their own deaths. Fans hoped the show would pick up that storyline in season ten, but it wasn't to be.

This time out? Langley appears via video chat on a smart phone, looking very much alive. There are a few keys here: it's unlikely to be a flashback, since that type of phone wasn't available when the trio supposedly "died." While it could be an odd cell phone vision, the bit of dialog suggests otherwise, as Langley yells "Mulder - they know that we know!" This is an active conversation.

Rejoice - the Gunmen are back!
