The Simpsons: 10 Secondary Characters Voiced By Hank Azaria

10. Raphael (aka Sarcastic Guy; aka Wiseguy)

First Appearance: "The Way We Was," Season 2. The man named in the scripts simply as "Wiseguy"- but more commonly known as "Sarcastic Guy"- may be one man, or may be several. Most often seen with a thick mustache and balding head, his hair color has changed, but not as often as his job. He has held as many jobs as the Squeaky-Voiced Teen, seen working around Springfield as: a limo driver, pet shop clerk, movie theater ticket booth, car salesman, repo man, plumber, exterminator, delivery man, etc. Simply put, if the Simpsons need to go to a store and we want to see a familiar face/hear a familiar voice, it will belong to Sarcastic Guy. And if that voice sounds familiar, it's because Azaria based it off of old-tough guy actor Charles Bronson. In Season 13's "Day of the Jackanapes," Sideshow Bob was again granted parole, and went to the Broken Dreams Storage Lockers Facility, where- surprise!- Sarcastic Guy was working. As he showed Bob to his old storage locker, Sideshow Bob addressed him as "Raphael." Whether this was a one-off joke, or this was meant to settle "What's his name?" arguments amongst the fans, has not made it any more clear. Funniest Moment: In Season 4's "Duffless," Lisa was looking to answer the age-old question: "Is my brother dumber than a hamster." At the pet-store, she asks the clerk for the smartest hamster he has. Raphael: "OK. (Grabs a random hamster out of a box of a dozen.) Uh, this little guy writes mysteries under the name of J. D. McGregor." Lisa: "How can a hamster write mysteries?" Raphael: "Well, he gets the ending first, then he writes backward." Lisa: "Aw, come on." Raphael: "Look, kid, just take him before his mother eats him, all right?"
