TV Review: BOARDWALK EMPIRE, 2.1

Series 2 has only just started and already I feel that there is more in store for our viewing pleasure.

Last week saw the big money and award winning Boardwalk Empire return to our British teleboxs for series 2 (yeah we are a little late with our review but what the hell!). The story of Enoch €˜Nuccy€™ Thompson (Steve Buscemi) continues as his empire of backhanders and illegal alcohol comes under threat. In my opinion the first series wasn€™t all it was cracked up to be. I felt that not enough happened, it was lacking in drama and Nuccy didn€™t really feel under threat as much as he should€™ve. But everyone loved it, it won rave reviews and a bag full of awards. Series 2 has only just started and already I feel that there is more in store for our viewing pleasure. Trouble is brewing for Nuccy and his illegal empire. Jimmy (Michael Pitt) is coming up in the world and is a bigger player this time around. Nuccy knows this and in seeing the threat he tries to remind him of the bond they once had and the times they shared when jimmy was a kid. Jimmy along with Nuccy€™s brother Eli (Shea Wigham) and the Commodore (Dabney Coleman) influence the KKK into killing some of Chalky€™s (Michael K. Williams) men and Chalky retaliates by killing one of the KKK. Trouble brews in the white and coloured camps as Nuccy tries to appease both. Agent Van Alden (Michael Shannon) welcomes his wife (Enid Graham) to Atlantic City for a visit and impresses her with busting a restaurant. When she leaves to return home Van Alden returns to his apartment where the heavily pregnant and usually naked Lucy (Paz de la Huerta) now resides. The episode finishes with Nuccy being arrested for election fraud. And the plot thickens. Already this series looks to be bigger and better in terms of story, drama and conflict €“ the driving forces behind any good story. The threat is no longer from the outside and from gangs residing in other cities. The threat is now from within and those long-standing relationships that Nuccy has relied look like they will be truly tested. Everyone is out for Nuccy and he is going to need to fight his corner at every opportunity. Tonight sees episode 2 on Sky Atlantic at 9pm and the story continue. I am truly excited already by Series 2 and I hope it grows better and better with every episode. Fingers cro
