Van Halen Try To Ban Karl Pilkington Cover Version From AN IDIOT ABROAD 2

US rock band Van Halen have proven themselves to be lacking a sense of humour this week by attempting to ban a cover version of one of their biggest hits. The offending song is due to appear in a forthcoming episode of Sky 1€™s An Idiot Abroad: The Bucket List, co-produced by the creators of The Office and Extras, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Following last year€™s show which saw Karl Pilkington travel around the globe visiting the Seven Wonders of the World, this new series sees him take on a list of €œthings to do before you die€ including performing with an American Glee style chorus group. Unfortunately for Van Halen, the song chosen for Karl to perform is their number one hit Jump taken from the band€™s 1984 album and according to Gervais in an interview with The Sun, Karl€™s rendition of the song is so bad, the band are trying to stop it from being aired. Luckily (or should that be unluckily depending on your point of view) it looks like UK viewers will be able to see the offending performance in full when the series airs later this month and if Gervais has his way, everyone will get the chance to see it in some form. He goes on to say;
€œSky have got a blanket agreement so we can put it out in England. But we can€™t put it out in America or on the DVD. But they can€™t stop us. Even if I have to put it out on the web it€™s being used.€
Apparently the performance also includes a full dance routine as well with Karl struggling to remember the moves and lyrics to the song. Gervais adds;
€œIt€™s the most mortifying thing I have ever seen. I was cringing. I was watching it through my fingers. You know when you wind up a mate and it€™s bad and then you wish you hadn€™t done it? That€™s what we felt.€
Personally, I can€™t wait to see it and judging from our very own Adam Rayner€™s review of the first episode of the new series, it sounds like the show will be very entertaining indeed and a welcome return to the schedules.
