The Walking Dead: 10 Questions And Answers To Current Mysteries

10. What Caused The Zombie Outbreak?

It was during the closing episodes of season one that fans were introduced to Dr. Jenner and the revelation that the dead were walking because of a virus. This virus evidently takes over the brain after a host has ceased living and mimics life by bringing the person back from the "dead". After resurrection, the host then reverts back to the most basic need to feed with a byproduct of that feeding being the spread of the virus to other hosts. The real question on the Walking Dead, and most other genre-inspired media, is what caused the zombie outbreak in the first place? Yes we know it's a virus but where did the virus come from? Was it a government experiment, was it a virus that evolved into a greater state, or was it even something from outer space? Traditionally it's never about where the virus comes from but rather surviving in a world where the dead once again walk. As a super fan of the Walking Dead and the zombie genre as a whole, I do not feel that fans will ever learn what truly started the outbreak. It's a concept better left up to ones own imagination and does nothing with moving the story forward. Audiences should concentrate on where the story is going rather than where it's come from.
