The Walking Dead 5.4 Review - 5 Talking Points From "Slabtown"
The walkers weren't the only things lifeless about this episode.
Well, they cant all be winners. After a very strong start to the fifth season of the zombified drama, The Walking Dead finally hit a wall this week with one of the worst episodes in the shows history. Slabtown explained the whereabouts of Beth since being split from Daryl, revealing that she had been held against her will in Atlantas Grady Memorial Hospital this entire time, healing from injuries and being forced into indentured servitude as payment for the help she received. The story fell flat with huge lapses in logic, bland, one-dimensional characters and lethargic, pacing that made it a chore to sit through, shambling along like the shows titular undead ghouls. We were firing through plot points prior to Slabtown, bringing a hasty end to the conflict with Gareth and crew, and now our focus is shifting toward Beths situation and the mission to Washington. Hopefully this doesnt end up being a drawn out affair, because there just isnt enough going on here to maintain an extended level of interest. The opening of the show was very reminiscent of the Lost episode Man of Science, Man of Faith in which the interior of the hatch is first revealed. Amidst all the death and decay of the world these characters exist in, heres a hospital that is relatively pristine and untouched, stocked with medicine and supplies. It was in such stark contrast to everything else weve seen that we were immediately thrown for a loop, but any excitement created by this new environment was soon flattened by the events occurring within those walls. Lets get to 5 talking points from Slabtown. It isnt going to be pretty.
