The Walking Dead Season 4: 7 Huge Contrivances That Led To Great Scenes

1. Lizzie Oakley Saves Tyreese (4.8, "Too Far Gone")

Over in the A-plot of "Too Far Gone," the Governor's professed plan to take the prison intact has gone slightly awry. The fences have all been destroyed and a tank is systematically blowing holes in the buildings. People on both sides are dying. The good guys are separated. Tyreese finds himself alone and pursued by Alisha and another of the Governor's people. When he runs out of ammunition, he dives behind some evidently bulletproof plants for cover. Just as he is on the verge of being discovered, a gunshot rings out of nowhere, and one of the attackers falls down dead. Alisha turns in shock to see little girls Lizzie and Mika pointing handguns at her. Before Alisha can do anything, Lizzie adjusts her aim and fires a bullet into her brain. Okay, this scene is admittedly pretty cool. The shock value alone is enough to pique viewers' interest in the kids' storyline in the second half of the season. Besides, if there were any non-Carl child to be capable of cold-bloodedly shooting another living person, it would totally be Lizzie. Nevertheless, it doesn't take a whole lot of thought to realize that this scenario was...unlikely, even in the zombie apocalypse. Lizzie being the one to save Tyreese is obviously meant to somewhat vindicate Carol. The only problem? There's no way that Carol could have managed to teach the children how to shoot. She was conducting knife lessons in secrets and it is inconceivable that she would have been able to cover up the noise and depletion of ammunition that would result from gun training with the youngsters. Where did they even get the guns? It's a cool scene, but it is also incredibly contrived.
