Young Justice: Outsiders - 6 Major Questions After The First Three Episodes

5. Why Did M'gann Change Her Appearance?

Young Justice Outsiders 1
DC Universe

One of the earliest changes involved core character M'gann M'orzz. As the new leader of the younger team of superheroes, M'gann was first seen congratulating the Alpha squad on a successful mission. However, it wasn't Miss Martian's new job title that got everyone talking - it was her drastically different appearance.

Her green skin, freckles and brown hair were all gone as she sported pale white skin with no hair whatsoever. This was undoubtedly a stark contrast to what we were used to but it could signify an important step in the character's development.

M'gann had previously struggled with her roots as a White Martian and, as a result, adopted the (greener) appearance of the titular character from sitcom "Hello Megan!" because she identified with her. When the team found out that it wasn't her real appearance, she tried to fool them by shape-shifting into a bald green Martian. However, she eventually revealed her true form.

Her new appearance is a tribute to the journey she has been on. M'gann has finally accepted herself as a White Martian but, instead of actually using her full appearance (pretty sure it would be hard to get her uniform on over those claws), she has found a happy medium - adopting the appearance of the bald green Martian but with white skin instead.

While she still adopts Megan's full Caucasian visage during her home life with Conner Kent, the fact that she now openly sports her white skin is a testament to her growth as a character.
