Is the former WWE Champion on his way back to the Octagon?

UFC President Dana White could be set to offer CM Punk's mixed martial arts career a lifeline this weekend, according to MMAFighting.com's Marc Raimondi.

As outlined in the tweet, Punk is set to be in Detroit for Saturday's UFC 218 pay-per-view, where him and White will presumably discuss the former WWE Champion's fighting future. Raimondi does note that Dana remains "unsure" about Punk potentially returning to the Octagon, though.

Punk's entry to the sport could hardly have gone any worse. The controversial star was thoroughly outclassed by Mickey Gall at UFC 203, and found himself flat on his back after being taken down at the very first time of asking. His opponent then worked his way towards a rear naked choke, tapping Punk out in just over two minutes, having not absorbed a single significant strike throughout.

Regardless, Punk's MMA debut was a huge business success for the UFC. His presence more than doubled their previous event's pay-per-view revenue, so it's easy to see why White may consider booking him again, despite his obvious lack of seasoning. We'll have to wait and see what comes of their UFC 218 meeting.
