Jon Jones Dismisses UFC Superfight With Anderson Silva

Will The Best Vs The Greatest ever happen in UFC?

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has dismissed the possibility of ever fighting MMA legend Anderson Silva. Both are under contract with the UFC and Silva Vs Jones is seen as the biggest dream match that the company could make. However, Jon Jones is quoted at Fox Sports saying "I just don't want to be the guy to beat him, even though it's happened already. I don't want to lose to him. I don't want to beat him." Speculation about Jones Vs Silva has heightened again in recent weeks. UFC President Dana White was due to make a "mega announcement" at a UFC press conference earlier in November, but ended up revealing that whatever deal it was "never got done in time." Later, White tweeted a photo of Jon Jones and Anderson Silva sparring. He tagged it as "The Superfight between @jonnybones and @spiderandersonsilva went down last nite @ufc headquarters #noppv #noticketssold #rockyvsapollo." Silva is 33-6 and has lost his last two fights against Chris Weidman. Before that he went undefeated for seven years and dominated the UFC as Middleweight Champion. His invincible fighting style resulted in him earning the status of "greatest of all time" in the sport. Now aged 39 he only has a few big fights left in the fighting game. The 27 year old Jones (20-1) is the current Light Heavyweight Champion and is regarded as the best fighter in the world in current pound for pound rankings. Like Silva did, Jones looks invincible in the cage. He hasn't lost since 2009 and even that was a controversial DQ call due to downward elbows. If UFC could make Silva vs Jones, it would be the biggest box office attraction since Brock Lesnar fought for the company. Despite what Jon Jones is saying in public, he is arguably as keen as anyone for the fight. His words could be a typical promotion trick to drive his own value up. The more the fight seems impossible, the more money it is worth. By making Jones Vs Silva seem more unattainable than ever, he has made the superfight as valuable as ever. If Dana White can make it work financially, then both Jon and Anderson will fight. The two fighters are shrewd businessmen and know how to play the promotion game better than almost anybody. As for who would win? You'd have to side with a victory for Jon Jones. As the younger man, he's instantly got the advantage. He's also got the height and naturally heavier body. However, in terms of skill and class, you could never rule out Anderson Silva.
