New Japan Pro Wrestling shows are so loaded with quality that it's almost natural to forget the quiet contributions made by Tanga Roa and the particularly underrated Tama Tonga.

Their role is truncated - formulaic, even. They were allocated 11:06 on Day 1 of the G1 USA Special to lose the IWGP Tag Team Titles to War Machine. They captured them at Dominion in just 10:55. It was a similar story to Wrestling Dontaku (11:43) and Wrestle Kingdom XI (12:24).

How Roa and Tonga occupy that brief time is what makes them memorable. They were famously critical of Jim Ross' Long Beach commentary, but they've adopted his "maximise your minutes" mantra perfectly. They run their foul f*cking mouths throughout their matches; Loa in particular revels in turning the airwaves blue. He shouts "eat sh*t!" before landing a big boot. He asks the referee if he's "sh*tting him" with his "bullsh*t" calls. They don't wrestle other tag teams, but rather "motherf*ckers".

It's not a one-dimensional punchline; there's a genuine menace to their modern savage act, particularly their vulture-circling taunts and precise move-set. Tonga - who creepily hides in the space behind opponents - has a stinger splash that, to use Tanga's tongue, is f*cking beautiful.
