10 Best Wrestling Matches Of The Week (July 4)

Cesaro and Cena put on one of the best TV matches of the year.

This past week has been a slightly eventful one in pro-wrestling. TNA held their annual Slammiversary event and saw Jeff Jarrett become King of the Mountain. A few days later on their Destination America show, Ethan Carter III claimed the top prize in that company from Kurt Angle.

In WWE, Cesaro answered John Cena's U.S. Open Challenge and reminded the world that he can be one of the best in-ring performers if he's simply given the chance.

Looking at TNA and WWE, it's easy to remember that this is a great time to be a wrestling fan. Both companies put forth several great matches in the past seven days. And even on the weeks that they don't, there are a handful more shows on the cable dial throughout the week that are fighting for ratings. There's competition, even if it's not always head to head.

Absent from the countdown this week is Lucha Underground. It looked like Prince Puma vs. Chavo Guerrero for the LU Championship could've been a top 10 match but it never really got the chance. Chavo suffered an injury early and the bout didn't even make it 5 minutes.

A quick reminder that the week always begins on Friday and ends with Smackdown on Thursday for this list. NJPW's AXS TV show is essentially a week behind while WWE's Beast in the East will not be considered until next week's article.

The following 10 matches are the very best in professional wrestling of the past week....

10. New Day & Bo Dallas vs. Prime Time Players & Lucha Dragons (Raw)

A multi-man tag match on Raw that goes around 15 minutes is always a recipe for an above average match. WWE should consider making this formula as routine as they can because these almost always end hot.

It's good to see Lucha Dragons in the mix on this one because there's no reason they can't be more legitimate contenders than they are right now.

Prime Time Players have a good formula when they get into their rhythm. Darren Young typically plays the face in peril role until he can finally get the hot tag to Titus O'Neil, who then proceeds to clean house. That's what happened in this match and it had a high-energy final few minutes.

Titus pinned Kofi after a sitout slam to get his team the win. Considering the tag division has suffered enormous losses due to injuries from The Usos and Kidd & Cesaro there are several teams more than willing and able to step it up, as evidenced by this match on Raw.
