These WWE special events sure do come around quickly don't they? SummerSlam feels like just five hot minutes ago, and here we are once more.

I always enjoyed the concept of Night of Champions, even if it should generally be the norm. One night, when all the titles in the company will be on the line? Shouldn't they be defended at every pay-per-view/special event, to continue the prestige of such things? Well, evidently not, so it's nice to still have one event annually where this is the case.

Night of Champions was born out of the previous pay-per-view event called Vengeance, with the first Night of Champions sharing the Vengeance name and taking place in 2007. As such, all results and statistics in this article will take only results from 2007 until the current day. I hope this is clear.

This year will be ninth edition of Night of Champions, and looking back through past results shows some interesting quirks. Who has experienced the most success at the event? Is anyone undefeated?

One small note however; for those performers with identical records, the number of tag matches and multi-man matches have been taken into account. Singles matches are worth more than the previously mentioned two. So if a superstar has one loss and that came in a multi-man match, that is worth more than one loss coming in a tag team match. Also, a minimum of three matches was required to qualify for the list.

10. The Miz - 7 Matches, 4 Wins

We begin with a comment on an anomaly. Four men have taken part in seven matches at Night of Champions, and three of those have four wins from those seven. The third of these, Cody Rhodes, misses out on the list because of one of the more interesting storylines of the era. Cody's first Night of Champions came in 2008 as he and Hardcore Holly defended the tag titles against Ted DiBiase and a mystery partner. Of course, Cody ended up being the mystery partner, and therefore has the strange return of 7 Matches, 4 Wins and 4 Losses. Only in wrestling.

Which leaves The Miz at number 10. His wins have come in a successful tag title defence with John Morrison against Finlay in Hornswoggle (2008), a singles win against Fandango (2013) and Intercontinental title defences in a Fatal 4-Way (2012) and against Dolph Ziggler (2014). This of course leaves three losses. One of these came in a six-pack challenge for the US title in 2009 (where The Miz wasn't involved in the decision) and another was a tag team loss by disqualification in 2011. Sandwiched in between these two was his submission loss to Daniel Bryan in an excellent match in 2010.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
