9. SmackDown Power Struggle Tease
In her second backstage segment of the show, Stephanie McMahon was seen hanging with Daniel Bryan, of all people, as the pair discussed their respective brand’s chances of coming out on top come the end of the evening.
It seemed like the usual he-says-she-says, to-and-fro squabble until Stephanie’s parting line posited the idea of a SmackDown brand ran exclusively by Bryan. The Raw Commissioner floated the prospect of her brother, Shane, being incapacitated to the point of being unable to run his show, to which Bryan responded with a silence that spoke a thousand words as he ponderously looked off into the middle distance.
At the risk of getting ahead of ourselves slightly, it did feel like another tease that all this growing tension between the two SmackDown authority figures could be reaching a boiling point.
The two have clashed in recent weeks, specifically over Shane’s recent invasion of Raw, and with a couple of members of the SmackDown roster already turning on their Commissioner, maybe Bryan will be the next name to join their little mutiny.
