In all of our lives, there are moments on which we look back with a sense of regret. You should have asked out Jennifer when you had the chance, you tell yourself. You should have got a degree in engineering instead - that's where the real money is.

But there's no use dwelling on things - unless it's professional wrestling, obviously.

If it's professional wrestling, dwelling on things is probably the best thing to do, since the entire medium would be nothing without fantasy and fans with the ability to dream and, if they can, suspend their disbelief about The Undertaker being able to possess Josh Matthews.

WWE has had a few sliding doors moments over the course of its long history, and whilst many of them have owed to factors outside of even Vince McMahon's control - ill-timed injuries to its biggest stars, the changing media and TV landscape in which it operates - they've also dropped the ball once or twice.

To be fair, pleasing everyone in a global fanbase made up of often indecisive voters isn't easy - but in some cases it seems like they've willfully given us the opposite of what we want.

WWE wasn't exactly in the habit of rolling out the red carpet for former WCW stars, but most of them - Booker T, Goldberg, Scott Steiner - were at least given a fighting chance of producing their best work.

DDP, on the other hand, was instantly burdened with a drab story-line that saw him become stalker to The Undertaker's wife, for no other reason than the fact that he wanted to make an impact (try using that as an excuse in court).

The future Hall of Famer was only a peripheral figure in the Invasion angle as it reached its climax towards the end of 2001, and fans never got a proper chance to see the man who commanded such a devoted following in WCW take on The Rock, who might broadly be regarded as his WWE counterpart.
