Traditionally, WWE see Monday Night Raw as their 'A' telecast, something which has never changed since the show crash-landed on television in January, 1993. The 'other' main broadcast, Smackdown, has had moments where it's threatened to supplant the Monday program - there was a time when the blue brand was vastly superior to the red, something Paul Heyman is credited for, due to him booking the vast majority of the show for a period, starting in 2002 with the 'Smackdown Six' period (Los Guerreros, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit). Recently, WWE made the decision to shift the show back to it's original Thursday night slot. Running on Friday evenings for close to a full decade, the hope within the company is that the change will re-invigorate the flagging ratings. Truthfully, the promotion are the victims of their own creeping malaise towards Smackdown. Fans are aware that the show is perceived as second behind Raw, and since the brand extension fizzled out, it's largely become little more than a Raw re-run. A strong Smackdown could actually be the best show on the weekly schedule €“ at only 2 hours in length, this could be the answer to those who feel Raw, at 3 hours, is far too long. Much has to be done before the show reaches the heights of old, but regardless of what it is now, Smackdown has offered up countless moments which are still talked about by fans today.
