10 Biggest Non-WWE Matches Of The Last Decade

9. Wrestle Kingdom 8's Double Main Event

This one has to go down as a tie: both Kazuchika Okada's Heavyweight Title defence against Tetsuya Naito and Hiroshi Tanahashi's Intercontinental Title clash with Shinsuke Nakamura were fabulous, headline-making matches.

Putting on a mouth-watering double main event featuring four of the best wrestlers of their generation (arguably, in fact, the four best wrestlers of their generation - at least where Japan is concerned) is simply guaranteed to generate a bit of buzz beyond your normal stomping ground.

At a combined length of nearly an hour, both of them delivered on the night too, Okada retaining his heavyweight crown after an exhausting 30-minute clash with Naito, and then, in the go-home match, Tanahashi and Nakamura putting on a genuine wrestling clinic over what was nominally a secondary belt.

It's occasions like this that have enabled NJPW to reach the sort of heights we are now seeing. Everyone involved always brings their A-game at Wrestle Kingdom, making it impossible for the wrestling world - including even the allegedly out-of-touch suits at WWE - not to stand up and take notice.
