10 Biggest Oversellers In Wrestling

Flips, flops and screams of sheer pain and anguish!

The art of selling is something that's lost on the industry today, at least according to legendary announcer Jim Ross. On his podcast, Ross has been highly outspoken about the idea of modern wrestlers slowing things down a little more. It's hard to argue that things have quickened, WWE matches move at a startling pace nowadays. More often than not, this comes at the expense of selling. To 'sell' in wrestling means to convey the idea of pain or distress to the watching audience. Those who do it effectively - such as Ricky Steamboat via his facial expressions - have been able to make careers out of the art form. It makes sense that there have been good sellers and bad sellers in wrestling history, not everybody can be a master. However, there are those who have a craving for the dramatic, which is where the idea of 'overselling' comes into play.

Once this list is scanned, it becomes clear that overselling isn't always to be considered a negative. Indeed, some of the performers referred to here are some of the best in history. Take Ric Flair's often-hilarious 'Flair Flop', for example. That would never happen in a real fight, but it's so entertaining that it's hard not to be perceived as endearing. The 'Nature Boy' isn't alone, these guys really knew how to crank up the volume dial when it came to selling for opponents.
