10 Biggest WWE Creative Mistakes Of 2017

The much maligned WWE creative team have got many things right in 2017, and it would be churlish to completely ignore them.

The Universal Title scene, for example - sans one or two well-founded complaints about the length of the matches - has been booked fairly well. They succeeded both in re-establishing Brock Lesnar as an unconquerable monster whilst generating some serious intrigue in his summer feuds with Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman.

On SmackDown, nobody can deny that Kevin Owens butting heads (in some cases, literally) with the McMahons made for an interesting angle, and even if the climax could yet disappoint us there was every reason to tune into Hell in a Cell in October.

NXT, of course, is NXT. The developmental territory has been renowned for its sensible, old-school booking since the day it came into our lives five years ago and - with the additions of, among others Drew McIntyre and Adam Cole - that was hardly likely to change in 2017.

Now that we've sang their praises, however, it's time to look at some of those moments during the last 12 months that the writers have got things badly wrong. Hey, that's balance for you.

10. Baron Corbin Winning MITB

To be fair, the creative team weren't to know that Baron Corbin would start exhibiting the sort of behaviour that, for whatever reason, is considered unbecoming of a top-level WWE star a few months after his push began.

(Having said that, they must have had at least a slight inkling. Aren't all WWE employees subject to an incredible level of scrutiny, right down to what they wear, by their backstage elders?)

Money in the Bank probably still a little too soon for Corbin, though. He had that big win over Dean Ambrose in the weeks that followed WrestleMania, but his act still needed (and still needs) a little fine-tuning, both in terms of mic ability and performance inside the squared circle.

This spot, to most fans, would have been better given to Sami Zayn, whose WWE career has lacked forward momentum pretty much since the day he popped up on the main roster in 2016. Even if it meant canning the heel turn, this could have been a big moment in his career.
